502AD: Meet Eadig. As a gesið (hearth companion), Eadig has won fame, wealth and land from the enemies of his people. His farm, on the edge of his lord's land needs defending and he is trusted to lead the local fyrd in the defence of his kin.

Learn about life in the Dark Ages - a period which started with the fall of Rome and the migration of Germanic peoples to Britain and ended with the Norman invasion.

Your students will swap riddles with a Saxon warrior. They will hear the tale of brave Beowulf fighting the hideous Grendel. They will see how a Saxon warrior is laid to rest in a fitting manner. Handling reproduction artefacts, playing board games of the period and learning how to count in Old English is also on the timetable.
